On March 26, we celebrate the birth of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole and his substantial legislative accomplishments that still resonate today — from giving neighbor islands more of a voice to advocating for making Pearl Harbor a military outpost, helping women in Hawaii get the right to vote and so much more.

Reporter Kirstin Downey, our resident historian in the newsroom, sat down with editor-at-large Naka Nathaniel to discuss these accomplishments, Kuhio’s star power and his incredible journey from royalty to the U.S. Congress.
